Website creation
We offer a completely FREE initial consultation to understand your needs. Based on this we will provide a quote for the work. Each quote is tailor-made to the client, but pricing breaks into two broad bands, based on the level of complexity:
Basic website
- Typically less than 10 pages with a single menu navigation
- Content mainly text and media display
- User interaction limited to basic contact forms and links to other sites / social media feeds
Complex website
- May have more pages and more complex navigation e.g. multiple menus
- Content may include e.g. more complex media display, RSS feeds, an online shop or booking system
- User interaction may include secure financial transactions
The creation process
Once contracted, we will work closely with you to create your website – from initial concept to launch. Typically this process follows these stages:
Step 1 – Requirements
We start with an in-depth conversation about your aims for the site and what resources you already have such as copy, images, video, logo and endorsements. We also confirm responsibility for registering the domain and hosting the site.
Step 2 – Design
We then create an initial design, including ideas for colours and fonts, and a suggested overall structure of the site – pages, internal links and menus.
Step 3 – Outline
Once you are happy with the design, we create a full set of draft screens with placeholders for all assets (copy, logos, media, reviews, etc). We agree who is to provide what.
Step 4 – Assets
There is then a period of collection / creation of assets. We are happy to write copy or work with your copy. We may make suggestions to optimise copy for search engines. We can suggest suppliers for photography / artwork if required.
Step 5 – Creation
We now build the website using all the assets. There will be opportunities for you to review it. We test it on different devices and browsers to ensure a consistent user experience, and we set up the hosting and domain if not already in place.
Step 6 – Launch
At the very end of the process, we ask you to check your website very carefully one more time and then sign it off. After that, we transfer it to the live domain. A full site handover document is provided.
FAQs
What platform do you use to build my website?
We use WordPress because it is flexible, reliable and well-tested. WordPress is used to build about 42% of all websites worldwide, including some very well-known brands.
Will I be able to update my website myself after it’s built?
We will build your website so that you can easily add your own posts and update copy and images within the existing layout. If you wish to do this, we will provide documentation to help you. Alternatively you may want to consider our Premium maintenance package which includes 3 hours of content creation / management per month.
Can you help with creating assets such as photographs and videos?
The assets used in your website belong to you and you need to organise their creation. We can offer advice about what would work well and provide suggestions for suppliers.
Will my site come up in Google rankings?
We use a range of techniques to help boost your site’s ranking in searches. As part of the initial requirements gathering we will discuss important keywords for your site and these should be incorporated into the copy.
Who is responsible for hosting my website?
All websites require a domain name to be registered and the site to be hosted. These are both covered by our Standard maintenance package. If you prefer not to take advantage of this, then you will be responsible for hosting and domain management. We can recommend suppliers if required.
